Thoughts on Cabby and Shelfy
Thankfully, Cabby can be retired.
Cabby was a “wrapper” for the legacy Cabinet Tool that went away with VW 2024. If you still want to use it, make sure that the legacy cabinet tool in in your workspace and it should still work. I have delusions of making a wrapper for the new cabinet tool.
But who has that kind of time?
Shelfy, however, still works brilliantly. It’s a “wrapper” for the Shelving Unit Tool and if you need two adjacent shelves or shelves as upper cabinets it’s still much faster. And it’s so stupid it makes me laugh every time I use it.
This is utter foolishness.
But it works. Pretty much.
Cabby is a tool that creates cabinets along a line and lets you resize the length of the cabinet line with handles!
It will do any number of cabinets. It will center the cabinet and keep the center. And it can draw base cabinets, wall cabinets, and floor object countertops at the same time.
But it’s a beta. There are clearly some secrets about cabinets that I don’t fully understand and sometimes you will get a FrankenCabinet.
My workflow - and I just made this for me - is to ungroup the Cabby object to get the VW cabinet objects after I’ve played around resizing everything. Then it’s quick to use cabinet styles to unFrankenCabinet them.
And just added (because an architect in Louisiana thought it would be funny): Shelfy. Same idea as Cabby, but it works on the Vectorworks Shelf object. And it works MUCH better than Cabby.
